A second Dragon Ball Super movie is finally on its way. Dragon Ball Super Movie 2 has been in discussions for quite a while now. It’s only now that it has been officially confirmed by Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama himself. For the past three years, the story has only been progressing through the manga. Movies and tv shows have been briefly absent.

Dragon Ball Super finished with episode 133 back in March 2018 and it concluded with Android 17 winning the Tournament of Power for the Universe 7 team. Around the end of the same year, Toei Animation released Dragon Ball Super: Broly, the first film under the “Dragon Ball Super” brand. The film ended up being a huge box office success for the studio, and it reimagined Broly from the Dragon Ball Z movies and brought him into the canon for the first time. Dragon Ball Super: Broly saw Frieza unleash the out-of-control Legendary Super Saiyan on Goku and Vegeta.

Now, it appears that new addition to the Dragon Ball universe is finally in development. It hasn’t been given a title at the moment, but it is known that instead of launching another season of Dragon Ball Super or a new series entirely, it will progress through a sequel to Dragon Ball Super: Broly.

In July 2024, Toei Animation revealed the official title of the next Dragon Ball Super feature film: Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero, and premiered the first teaser featuring Goku.

The studio confirmed that the film takes place in the future, just a few years after the events of the Tournament of Power arc of the Dragon Ball Super anime. Since Toei Animation announced that the new film will be released in 2024, because of this it’s likely that Season 2 of the anime series will premiere after that.

Dragon Ball Super Second Movie Release Date:

Toei Animation has confirmed that Dragon Ball Super’s second movie will be releasing sometime in 2024. Though a more specific date hasn’t been marked on the calendar yet. Like the last film, it could release near the end of the year. Broly hit Japanese theaters in December 2018.

Dragon Ball Super Movie Story Details:

Not much has been said about which antagonists Goku and Vegeta will be facing yet. There’s a chance that the plan is for Dragon Ball Super Movie to adapt the Moro arc from the manga. After all, this is what followed the Tournament of Power in the Dragon Ball Super manga, so that would make sense to some degree. If this did happen, it would involve Goku and Vegeta battling an evil sorcerer Moro. Moro escaped from the prison operated by the Galactic Patrol earlier. Though the length of this story might be better suited for a full series saga than a two-hour film. Alternatively, the sequel could always tell an all-new story or adapt another non-canon villain as they did with Broly.

Potential Characters for the Movie:

It’s almost certainly guaranteed for both Goku and Vegeta to make an appearance in the Dragon Ball Super Movie 2. The same isn’t assured for everyone else, it’s difficult to say at the moment. Gohan, Krillin, Tien, and Yamcha were unfortunately sidelined completely. Piccolo only received a minute role. Depending on the size of the threat, it’s possible that more than just Goku, Vegeta, and Frieza will be partaking in the fight.

Plus, Toriyama has teased the inclusion of an “unexpected character”, which suggests that the Z-Warriors will be crossing paths with a hero or villain who isn’t always around, such as Future Trunks.

Will There Even Be A Season 2 of Dragon Ball Super Anime?

Yes. Even though a release date has not been set, the new season of the Dragon Ball Super has been confirmed. Dragon Ball Super Season 2 is hundred percent a possibility. Season 1 ended at the end of the Tournament of the power arc. There were so many things that it failed to cover.

Most of the times anime adaptations are based on their ongoing manga chapter but for Dragon ball it’s different. Dragon Ball Super anime always had its own plot and the manga always lagged behind.

We don’t expect the upcoming Dragon Ball Super 2 to be fully based on the ongoing manga, maybe Toei will have a unique plot for the anime.

Reasons why Dragon Ball Super Anime will return late

  • Resources of the team are working on One Piece only for the timing
