A little about Snowdrop

This drama is set in the 1987 Democracy Movement, where lead roles are students starring Jung Hae In and Kim Jisoo. They both are students of a prestigious university in Korea. Both of the leads have very different personalities and Jisoo falls in love at first sight when she saw him at a social gathering. The next time she meets him he is covered in blood and she hides him in her university dorm room. This is after she talks to him, she finds out that he is not what he looked like.

This piece of information is doubtful, that the story of this drama is taken from a handwritten note from a man who escaped from a political prison camp in North Korea. we are not 100% sure about this.

Snowdrop shooting

The male lead Jung Hae In seems to be politically involved in a democratic movement and therefore Jisoo saved him from the government at the time. Yes, Jung Hae In and Jisoo will end up dating in the drama. Now everyone is excited.

What is the controversy with Snowdrop?

Jisoo’s character name in this drama is demanded to be changed because it is similar to the name of a prominent political figure Chun Young Chu. Her new name is not announced yet but her current name is Young Cho. Chun Young Chu was an activist in the Korean democracy student protest movement.

JTBC confirmed that even though the character has nothing to do with the activist, they will change the name since now it is brought in issues. Some critics are also predicting that this drama contains some characters who were there during the 1987 movement and the drama’s synopsis does not do justice to the actual history that happened. They are concerned about Korean History being portrayed with fabrication.

We will have to find out once the episodes start airing.
